From Jökulsárlón in the west to Hornafjarðarfljót in the east
Hunting District 9 stretches from Jökulsárlón in the west to Hornafjarðarfljót in the east. The area is characterized by outlet glaciers, steep mountain ridges and the valleys between them. In District 9 it is important to have your feet in good shape. Hunting grounds can certainly be found on the lowland plains — Breiðamerkursandur and Heinabergssandur among them — but most of the hunting takes place in steep mountain terrain.
The landscape is magnificent, and somehow this area delivers it straight into your arms. Where the outlet glaciers meet high, steep mountains, you will often find yourself stopping mid-hike — sometimes you need an extra breath simply to take in the view.

Plenty of farm guesthouses along the ring road. Grocery store and swimming pool in Höfn í Hornafirði.
No fuel is available between Fagurhólsmýri and Höfn í Hornafirði.

From Hornafjarðarfljót in the west to the municipal boundary of Hornafjörður and Múlaþing in the east
Hunting District 8 stretches from Hornafjarðarfljót in the west to the municipal boundary of Hornafjörður and Múlaþing in the east. The district is the part of Hornafjörður that formerly made up Bæjarhreppur and Nesjahreppur (Lón and Nes). Steep mountains, large valleys and glacial rivers, with natural gems such as Lón and the Lónsöræfi wilderness further inland. Services are found in Höfn. The hunting quota increases considerably in 2026, and special November hunts for cows are permitted.

From the municipal boundary of Hornafjörður and Múlaþing to Langitangi east of Berufjörður
Hunting District 7 stretches from the municipal boundary of Hornafjörður and Múlaþing at Hlaupageiri to Langitangi east of Berufjörður, where it meets District 6. The district is the part of Múlaþing that formerly made up Djúpavogshreppur. District 7 then meets District 2 inland of Þrándarjökull.
